Thank you for visiting my website. I am running for Cook County Circuit Judge in the 8th Subcircuit (Cole vacancy), which covers the lakefront from the Edgewater to the northern edge of Bridgeport.
I have a long record of protecting human rights. As a former eight-term State Representative I sponsored landmark legislation that protected basic rights for the LGBTQ community, for women, and for ethnic and religious minorities.
(Read a message about my LGBTQ record).
Some of the most important laws I passed include:
The Illinois Hate Crimes Act which made it a felony to attack someone over their perceived ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation.
A law that gives religious minorities – such as the Jewish community - the right to observe their high religious holidays by allowing them to reschedule work, court, and classroom obligations that conflict with these holidays.
The Order of Protection Act which strengthened Orders of Protection by allowing women to get Orders against their husbands and by increasing the penalties for violating a court order.
The Missing Child Act which allows law enforcement to begin investigating a missing child case immediately without waiting 72 hours.
A law exempting Social Security payments from Illinois state income tax.
The law the created the Citizen’s Utility Board, an organization that has saved Illinois residents over 10 billion dollars.
I will bring this commitment to fairness and basic human rights to the courtroom with your support in the Democratic Primary on March 20th.
